New breakthrough in anti-corrosion of deep-sea pipelines, high solid content IPN8710 coating successfully applied to water transmission pipelines on offshore platforms

In the harsh marine corrosive environment, China has made new progress in the "anti-corrosion armor" technology of marine engineering equipment. Led by a subsidiary of CNOOC and jointly developed with top domestic coating research institutes, the "ultra-high solid content IPN8710 anti-corrosion system suitable for marine environments" has been successfully applied in engineering on the domestic and production water injection pipelines of a certain offshore oil and gas field in the South China Sea, and has undergone a complete typhoon season test with excellent performance.
The high salt, high humidity, strong ultraviolet radiation, and complex microbial environment in the marine environment pose far higher requirements for anti-corrosion coatings than on land. The improved IPN8710 coating applied this time has increased its solid content to over 80%, and a single coating can achieve a thickness of over 400 microns, greatly reducing the number of construction passes and improving the construction efficiency in the special and high cost operating environment of offshore platforms. At the same time, special weather resistant and anti-seepage additives are introduced in the formula, greatly enhancing its performance in resisting seawater immersion, salt spray erosion, and condensation water, especially suitable for pipeline anti-corrosion in damp compartments and splash areas inside the platform.
The successful application of this technology has solved the pain point of frequent maintenance of some water pipelines on offshore platforms due to corrosion and leakage, significantly reducing the operation and maintenance costs and safety risks of the platform. This is not only an important leap for IPN8710 products from land to high-end applications in the ocean, but also provides a new and completely independent intellectual property solution for the long-term anti-corrosion of pipelines in China's marine oil and gas resource development, remote island water supply and other projects. It has important value in ensuring the long-term safe operation of national marine strategic facilities.
